10 Big Brands Crowdsourcing on DesignCrowd

From startups to big brands and big names, many companies are turning to crowdsourcing for new ideas, to engage fans/audience and get social networks buzzing. From indie folk band Bon Iver crowdsourcing tattoo design from fans of the band, to artists looking for funding for exhibitions on Indiegogo or entrepreneurs on Kickstarter, getting ideas (and cash) from the crowd is making headlines and helping brands grow. Here's ten brands who've crowdsourced design on our platform.

#1 - Virgin

Earlier this month Virgin crowdsourced a t-shirt for their Healthmiles brand. (@Designers - this contest is still open - so get your entry in before 29 September 2012!)

#2 - UNICEF

UNICEF crowdsourced banner ad designs via DesignCrowd. They had a small budget (_125) highlighting big brands can save bucket-loads using crowdsourcing.

#3 - Amnesty International

Earlier this year Amnesty International crowdsourced 4 t-shirt designs from DesignCrowd. The "Fighting Bad Guys" t-shirt design by Raka (a designer from Tunisia) came in 3nd and is one of our favourites!

#4 - Dexter / Showtime

Dexter, Showtime's award winning Television show, came to DesignCrowd earlier this year to crowdsouce a promotional t-shirt to launch their upcoming season. The winning design(s) got a chance to be printed on merchandise/t-shirt and sold to Dexter fans around the world.

#5 - HI-TEC

HI-TEC, one of the UKs leading sports shoe manufacturers, crowdsourced a series of icon sets for their shoes and catalogues. After receiving almost 600 designs, global product director of HI-TEK Duncan Patmore said, "By using DesignCrowd we have saved at least 50% compared to the costs of our normal creative agencies. Crowdsourcing is a brilliant way to pick the creative brains of a global design team and home in on a solution that is right for you."

#6 - Panasonic

One of our clients crowdsourced logos for Panasonic's "Insider Community". Another example of a big brand saving money and getting creative designs super quick, from around the world via crowdsourcing! This was one of the first big brand projects on DesignCrowd back in 2010 - respect!

#7 - TimesSquare.com

TimesSquare.com crowdsourced new logo on DesignCrowd earlier this year. They offer $10,000 and received an amazing 5,812 logo design entries to their contest and some good press coverage in the US, Canada and Australia (bonus!) - highlighting one of the benefits of crowdsourcing for big brands: good publicity!

#8 - Amnesty International (2011)

Okay, we've cheated and incldued Amnesty International twice. Amnesty have been running an annual contest with us to get their Fighting Bad Guys shirt designed. They started this with their 2011 t-shirt design contest.

#9 - Harvard Business School

James Allworth (of Harvard Business School) said this about the experience they had with DesignCrowd, "DesignCrowd changes the game for getting creative work done. In the old world, you try to find a single designer that understands you and what you're hoping to achieve. You gauge them on their past work, and you just have to hope they'll get your work right as well."
